While we're into the long days of summer, and the next issue of the diocesan paper is way, way off (post-annual convention), here are some Parish Pearls:

7/23/10:St. Mary’s, Manchester has launched an “Undie Sunday” campaign. When their outreach committee learned from the Manchester Area Council of Churches (MACC) Charities that one of the greatest needs among Manchester’s poor is for underwear and socks, committee members knew what they had to do: launch a campaign to encourage parishioners to donate new men’s, women’s and children’s underwear and socks  -- or make a cash donation so that committee members could make the purchase. The campaign began on Sunday, July 4 and wraps up on Aug. 1, which they designated as their official "Undie Sunday."  (Thx to Noreen Kirk @ St. Mary's, for the info!)

  Tensions escalated July 29 as Arizona's contentious immigration law went into effect, with both opponents and supporters vowing, "we will not comply."

  The amount of assets the Church Pension Fund has available for benefits "rebounded well" in the past fiscal year, according to the Church Pension Group's 2010 annual report.
• Judge partially blocks Arizona's controversial immigration law; prayer vigils to proceed as planned
  Activists hailed a federal judge's July 28 decision to partially block sections of Arizona's controversial immigration law and said they will proceed with prayer vigils and protests as planned for July 29, the day the law was to take effect.
