2009 Convention

Annual Convention eNewsletters: Sent at the end of each business day

  • Bishop's Address
  • BIshop's Homily (Convention Eucharist)
  • Proposed Order of the Day (revised 9/17/09)
  • Proposed 2010 Budget (approved by Council 9/9/09) The resolution enabling this budget passed, but with a significant and non-specific amendment. The budget was amended so as to provide the special mission opportunities in Schedules C, F, and L to not be cut any more than the aggregate cuts to the budget. I don't have the exact language yet. Basically it refers to those sections of the budget funding higher education, Hispanic, Haitian, and Deaf ministries that were cut by 25%, seeking their cuts to be the same as made to the other schedules in the budget. The amended resolution passed, but no word yet on what this means or how it will be done. WIll the rest of the cuts made now be increased across the board? Will certain items get the axe? The bishops, Jack Spaeth, the treasurer, the program and budget committee perhaps, will look at this, but not today or tomorrow.
  • Budget Narrative (prepared by Canon Jack Spaeth)
  • Resolutions (six) 9/17/09 All six passed, two with amendments. Resolution 2, as noted above, amended the budget to ensure that mission opportunities weren't cut by more than the percentage that other departments were cut. Resolution #6 was amended to not specify five years as the time frame to start tithing, for those who are not now, but want to work towards it.
  • Nominees for Standing Committee: Two lay, three clergy. Elect one in each order for a five-year term. Elected: Lay: Thom Peters; Clergy: Nancy Cox
  • Letter (Oct. 20) to all delegates from Standing Committee Chair Linda Spiers with final notes about the election.

All voting clergy and all elected delegates and alternates, and others as interested, should subscribe to the Annual Convention eNewsletter. An eNewsletter will be sent at the end of each day. Results the election on Saturday will be posted and tweeted.

More information will be posted as it becomes available.
