Transition of the 15th Bishop of the Diocese

Diocesan Bishop Andrew D. Smith announced his plan to retire in 2010 and called for the election of Connecticut's 15th diocesan bishop for October 2009 Diocesan Convention. The Rev. Dr. Ian T. Douglas was elected on the second ballot from a field of four nominees. Pending consents he will be ordained and consecrated on April 17, 2010. These web pages will archive info about the search, nomination, and election, and add info about the transition.

Bishop Smith retired Jan. 31, 2010. There will be a farewell reception for the bishop and his wife, Kate Smith, on Sunday, Feb. 28, at Trinity, Hartford, from 4 - 8 p.m. (see subpage at left) RSVPs were requested by Jan. 29.

Bishop-elect Douglas has begun work for the Diocese. His ordination and consecration is scheduled for April 17, 2010, God willing and consents pending. (see subpage at left) Bishop Suffragan James E. Curry is the ecclesiastical authority for the Diocese from Feb. 1 through April 17.
