Good News - diocesan newspaper

 Current issue of Good News:

Winter 2009-2010

The Diocese of Connecticut publishes a quarterly newspaper, sent to all Episcopal households in the diocese, and some others as courtesy or upon request. Current issue is posted online here, above, and requires Acrobat reader 6.0 or later (which allows the file to be smaller). Download the current version of Adobe Reader here - there's a link on that page to Readers for previous versions if your machine's a bit older.)

Address updates/changes welcome. Contact Sharron Ring, mailings@ctdiocese.org
Parish offices: Please request a Good News audit list, we're not yet fully able to send and receive electronic files for the database: Make changes on the audit, including deletions, and return with any new additions. Request of Sharron Ring, mailings@ctdiocese.org.

Advertising is accepted (but not for insurance, travel agencies, or financial instruments). Ad sizes and rates changed in July 2008 due to a change in the commercial press used by the printer. Click here for the ad kit and contract. Note: The budget for 2010, which is expected to pass at Convention in Oct. 2009, reduces the line item for the newspaper so that only three issues can be published in 2010. At this time (Oct. 12, 2009) ad sizes and fees will remain the same, but may change in the future. The ad kit linked above reflects the 2010 cuts.

Schedule (assuming budget cuts as advised for 2010) for 2010 and early 2011

  • Winter 2010 (Jan, Feb, Mar, Apr) Copy/ads needed by Dec. 1. Mails late early January 2010.
  • Spring/Summer 2010  (May, June, July, Aug, Sept) Copy/ads needed by April 1. Mails late early May 2010.
  • Fall 2010 (Oct, Nov, Dec)  Copy/ads needed Sept. 1. Mails late early October
  • Winter 2011 (Jan, Feb, Mar, April) Copy/ads needed by Dec. 1. Mails late December/early January 2011

Suggestions
The newspaper includes stories of local ministry and mission, some as brief "pearls" of parish news, and others as longer stories or features. Please contact the editor, Karin Hamilton, 860-233-4481 (800-842-0126 in CT) ext. 130 or editor@ctdiocese.org if you would like to talk about story or photo ideas, or if you have suggestions. Unsolicited manuscripts are not guaranteed publication.

The paper's brief calendar section focuses on diocesan events; see the online calendar for more events.

Newsletters
All Connecticut Episcopal parishes are encouraged to add the newspaper editor to their newsletter's mailing list, if they haven't already done so. The newsletters are the source for the "Parish Pearls" included in each issue. Send to Editor, Good News, 1335 Asylum Ave, Hartford CT 06105. NOTE: Parishes already mailing their newsletter to Karin Hamilton, or to the Communication Office, don't need to send another copy.
