April 14. Bishop James E. Curry announces that the Rev. Cn. David Cannon has been appointed priest-in-charge of Bishop Seabury Episcopal Church in Groton. Read the press release of the appointment.

October 6. Sharon Pearson, diocesan staff member for Christian Education and Children's Ministries, will resign effective November 15 for a position with Church Publishing, Inc. Read more. The position is part of a reorganization of CPI.

Connecticut's 223rd annual convention will be held at Christ Church Cathedral in Hartford on October 19-20, 2007. Web pages are being prepared and information posted. Notice of pages will be announced in the diocesan eNewsletters with more detail and links through the Annual Convention eNewsletter.

September 14, 2007. The Rev. Gil Wilkes has announced that as of September 30, he will retire from his position as rector of Christ & the Epiphany Church in East Haven. As reported in an article published in the New Haven Register, Wilkes intends to start a new church, under the auspices of the Convocation of Anglicans in North America (CANA), a mission of the Anglican Church of Nigeria. (If Wilkes joins CANA he will no longer be able to continue as a priest in The Episcopal Church.) Part of the current congregation will join Wilkes, the rest will remain. A new vestry is already forming and met with Bishop Smith and Canon Jack Spaeth on September 13, 2007.

June 30, 2007: The Rev. Dr. Laura J. Ahrens was ordained and consecrated "a bishop in the church of God and a bishop suffragan for Connecticut."

May 27, 2007 The clergy and congregation of Trinity Church in Bristol voted to join CANA, a mission of the Church of Nigeria (Convocation of Anglicans in North America). Their US headquarters is in Virginia. Bishop Smith learned of the vote early the following week. In an article published June 4 in the Hartford Courant Bishop Smith said he was "deeply concerned about what is happening at Trinity" and was waiting to speak with the Rev. Donald Helmandollar, Trinity's rector, before speaking publicly on the matter.

May 19, 2007. The Bishop's 5K for Kids took place in West Hartford with close over 300 runners and walkers. The annual event will benefit the Bishop's Fund for Children which makes grants to programs across the state that help children and youth at risk. May 10, 2007. The Bishop and Transition committee announced that the location of the consecration service for the Rev. Dr. Laura J. Ahrens will be Woolsey Hall on the Yale campus. The service will be held June 30 and begin at 10:30 a.m.

May 9, 2007. A team from the Companions in Mission Committee of the Diocese is visiting our partner Diocese of Colombia, S.A. and Leslie Jones, of the Communication Office, is posting some photos with captions from the trip.

April 20, 2007. Bishop Smith wrote a letter to the clergy of the Diocese to let them know they would be receiving an invitation to the ordination to the priesthood of the Rev. Bill Hesse, in Bishop Seabury Church, Groton, and that the ordination will be celebrated with his permission. The letter, which was sent electronically to subscribers of the For Clergy newsletters, shared further developments in the relationship between the congregation and clergy of Bishop Seabury Church, and Bishop Smith. April 13, 2007: An elected Episcopal Church review committee has decided to drop all charges brought in 2005 against Bishop Andrew D. Smith by the rectors and vestries of six parishes in the Episcopal Diocese of Connecticut. Saturday, March 10: The Rev. Dr. Laura Ahrens has been elected suffragan bishop for the Episcopal Diocese of Connecticut. In accordance with Episcopal Church rules, a majority of bishops with jurisdiction as well as the Standing Committees of the other 109 dioceses in the Episcopal Church must now give their consent to this election. If received, Ahrens will be consecrated as a bishop on Saturday, June 30 at Christ Church Cathedral, Hartford. The Most Rev. Katharine Jefferts Schori, presiding bishop of the Episcopal Church, will be the chief consecrator.
